Region breaks 27-year daily rainfall record a day after tying high temp from 1910

The region set a record for rainfall before the sun had even risen Monday.

Rainfall for the day was recorded at 2.48 inches, but the record already was broken by 4:44 a.m., when the National Weather Service in Wilmington reported rainfall of 1.83 inches was recorded in Dayton. This beat the daily record of 1.49 inches set in 1995.

Monday’s record-setting morning came a day after the Dayton region tied its record-high temperature for March 6.

The city matched the record set 112 years ago in 1910 with a high of 74 degrees Sunday, according to NWS. The region appears to be taking a break from the balmy weather, with lower temperatures predicted for most of the week.
